From Criminals to Soldiers?
Okay so can someone please tell me why na’er do wells and criminals who wouldn’t normally be qualified to join the Army are now being recruited and turned into bonafide soldiers? Apparently for the second month in a row, the Army recruiting quotas have fallen to record lows and officials are letting some folks slide who ordinarily wouldn’t make the cut. Just who are these folks who will be charged with the responsibility of protecting this country? Felons and fatties among others; which is to say law breakers and the really really obese.
It doesn’t take a MIT post doctoral candidate to figure out why folks aren’t rushing to join the military. No one wants to take their hiney over to the desert to fight for only God knows what and possibly lose their life for some mediocre benefits and a GI bill they may never use because some insurgent took a rocket launcher and blew up their Humvee.
If President Bush wants more people to join the military which actually does have great benefits and offers opportunities to service-members, he should do two simple things: End the war and bring our men and women back home.
