Political Messiah?
So lately I’ve been thinkin’, the Bush administration has gotten has created such a royal mess with this Iraqi conflict that the anger in the Muslim world will likely continue for generations. Heck, take a look at author Salmon Rushdie – the recently knighted author of the Satanic Verses (which contained some lets just call them unkind observations about Islam.)
More than a decade later after the publication’s release Rushdie still has a fatwa on his head. So that means its perhaps safe to say that the Muslim world is probably not that big on putting things in the past and moving on.
Worse yet, it could mean that the next president, whether democrat or republican (even if this person turns out to be a political messiah) will spend the entire term of his/her administration trying to ease tensions between the United States and the Islamic world. Why should we smooth over the rough edges? Hmmm… its the right thing to do and because we obviously need gas!
